A Cartoon Journey of Our First Year through COVID-19
A comedic, illustrated, and unapologetic memoir to look back and remember our first unprecedented year of COVID-19 in a different light.
Original Poetry by Jon Bowerman
How bright may I shine?
That in my glow,
Yours remains amongst mine.
As I rise, will the fire I am,
Bring you relief?
Will you fade, into shade,
From the grief?
How bright may I shine?
That I may ignite your flame,
Without being scalded by mine.
How bright may I shine?
That I may open, yet protect,
Your eyes from blind.
How bright may I shine?
That I may unfilter, as a star,
Challenge, without going too far.
Will my intensity give you cause,
To open your heart,
Or sharpen your claws?
Will you desire the moment I set?
For your chance,
To emerge beyond silhouette.
Will you feel smaller than your shadow?
If I go deep,
Will you feel shallow?
Will you feel blame?
Will you feel lost?
Will you turn in shame, and sabotage my name,
At any cost?
I ask you,
How bright may I shine?
________
As I answer,
Know I’m on your side.
I’m comfortable in my power,
To turn the tide.
With you, I’m in no sort of danger.
Your range, whether strange,
Makes you no sort of stranger.
No part to be concealed.
For my texture emerges,
By craters revealed.
For the greater you shine,
The greater I glow,
Amongst the nighttime show.
You make it possible,
You light the room,
For all to see me,
Your friend, the Moon.
